Try to play your video's with VLC media player. It is an open source media player avaliable on almost every platform (including mac). Here's a link: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It's always worked for me.

Better hurry up and get it. VLAN could be in trouble:

VideoLAN may disappear due to EUCD
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/7114.cfm

Excerpt:

>>The main goal of this law is to restrict the rights of digital content purchasers. It most notably forbids them from working around technical content protection measures.
Doing so, writing or publishing software allowing to do so, or even merely talking about ways to do so becomes an offence that can be punished with three years in jail.

VideoLAN is directly impacted, most notably for its reading capability (all Linux DVD reading software has the same problem). Should this law be passed, this would seriously hinder VLC's development.

The French website eucd.info collects a large number of related articles and documentation.<<

Well, I would suggest downloading the mpeg-2 file if it is avaliable. It will be larger in size, but I cant imagine quicktime or VLC media player not playing an mpeg-2 encoded video file.

Can you give a link to an example of an mpeg4 that will not play on your mac? Perhaps the link you are downloading is to streaming media and not meant for downloading?

Sorry the first troubleshoot did not work.
